Massage Can Get Rid Of Upper Back Pain, Lower Back Pain and Neck Pain

You can get rid of upper back pain, lower back pain and neck pain naturally with Complementary Alternative Medicine (also known as CAM.)   🙂

It’s called ‘complementary’  because it can be used along with conventional medical treatment.

There are a lot of reasons why CAM helps and research backs it up.

An interesting study from the National Institutes of Health (the United States government’s health arm) tells about the benefits of massage, chiropractic and acupuncture (3 types of CAM) for neck and back pain.

And an article I just read indicates that people would have even more neck and back pain relief benefit from therapeutic massage if they had it 2 or 3 times a week rather than just once a week while they are recovering.  That makes total sense because when you have more frequent massage it helps your muscles remember how they are supposed to be.

The article continued by saying that the people who have the more frequent massage sessions tend to get better faster.  That’s because they don’t keep going back to the first stage of discomfort; rather, each treatment builds on the previous massage.

In my experience, even weekly or bi-monthly massage can make a world of difference in back pain relief.

Do you mean I have to have massage forever to relieve my back pain?

No, just until the symptoms subside.  Sometimes it’s one session and sometimes it may be five or ten.  Not forever.

Additionally, there are many different types of massage.  Something “light and fluffy” or “relaxation massage” may not help at all.  But a type of massage that targets the muscles that are causing your pain may be a terrific help.

Since all massage techniques and all massage therapists are different, your results may differ from the back pain and neck pain relief shown in a research study.

But in my opinion, with over thirty years of experience, massage is the best medicine in the world for upper back pain, lower back pain and any pain in between.  Go for it!

  1. i would like a neck massage it would be nice
    because it feels so good.

  2. Hi Andy,

Yes, a neck massage does feel good but even better than that it is good for you, too! 🙂

Massage has many benefits–feels good, helps get rid of pain, helps people function better and move more freely. It is the oldest medicine and is very good medicine.

    Thank you for writing!
